Most of the comfort complaint in this county is a west or south wall in the afternoon. A marketing word like “energy efficient” does not tell you what was ordered.

The label is the spec

Ask to see the NFRC label for the unit on the quote. The numbers people actually compare are U-factor and solar heat gain. Visible light is on that label too, if a dark coating would bother you.

If a permit is part of the job, the building department cares about those numbers for the climate zone on that address. San Diego County is not one zone. Ask which zone the department uses. Do not take a number from this article as the requirement.

Coatings are a choice, not a slogan

Low-E is a coating. It can be right for a west wall and annoying on a window you want brighter. Ask the contractor to say which coating is on the quoted unit. A feature that is not written down is not a feature.

Rebates are not this site’s job

Utility and tax programs open and close. Confirm any credit with the agency that pays it, on the day you buy. Pane Pro SD will not promise one.
