Exterior patio and sliding glass doors
This page is the door to the yard, not a closet slider and not an indoor glass wall. A panel that drags, a fogged insulated pane, a lock that misses, or hardware pitted by salt air can be a repair or a new door in the same opening. Pane Pro SD refers a contractor who should look at the sill before calling it either one.
What's included in this service?
- Refer a contractor for exterior patio doors only
- Ask them to inspect the sill pan and the rough opening for soft wood
- Threshold height, screen, and lock should be lines on the quote
- A wider opening is a different project from a same-size swap
When do you need this service?
- The panel is heavy to move or jumps off the track
- Moisture is trapped between the door panes
- The lock no longer lines up
- Coastal hardware is pitted and the door is original
What do homeowners ask about Patio doors?
Is an interior sliding wall the same job?
No. Interior dividers and closet doors are a different product. If the door opens to weather, start here.
Does a patio door need a permit?
City of San Diego Information Bulletin 203 describes conditional exemptions and a no-plan permit path. Confirm the proposed work with the building department that covers the property, and agree who handles any required permit.
Can the old frame stay?
Sometimes, if it is square and the sill is dry. If the sill is soft, a new panel in that frame will not stay weather-tight. Ask for that finding in writing.
Who sets the price?
The contractor, after measuring. Pane Pro SD does not publish a door price.
