Common questions. Straight answers.
Most of what homeowners ask before they call for a match. Don't see your question? Call the number in the header.
The quote
Why is there no price on this site?
The number depends on the opening in front of the contractor. Pane Pro SD never sees that opening, so it does not print a figure. Compare the written scopes you receive.
Who writes the number down?
The installer, after they measure. Ask them to list the frame, the glass, and what happens to the old unit. A verbal ballpark is not the quote.
Does Pane Pro SD charge for a visit?
No. We are not the company that comes out. Ask that company, before they drive over, whether the visit itself costs anything.
Can you promise a rebate?
No. Utility offers change and close. Look up the current SDG&E and state pages yourself when you are ready to buy.
Frame and glass
Where do vinyl and fiberglass differ?
Vinyl is the frame most quotes in this county begin with. Fiberglass can be painted and stays straighter in a wide opening. Aluminum, often the frame coming out, moves heat. Ask which one fits the wall and any color rule on the house.
What should I ask about a coating?
A low-E coating is a film on the glass that deals with heat while light still comes through. If it is not on the label in the quote, it is not part of the order.
Can the new unit look like the old one?
Ask. Hung windows, sliders, casements, awnings, bays, and bows are all ordinary requests. Grid and color belong on the quote. Pane Pro SD does not pick a brand.
When does the old frame stay?
When it is solid, an insert can sit inside it. When it is soft, rotten, or the opening is changing size, the frame comes out. The person who measured should say which one, in writing.
Rules and water
Who decides if a permit is required?
The building department for that address. City of San Diego Information Bulletin 203 is the city handout on conditional exemptions. Other cities have their own sheets. Agree in the quote who files anything that is required.
What do I ask about a bedroom window?
A sleeping room needs a way out. The opening size and the sill height come from the code book that department is using. Do not order from a number you found online.
What keeps rain out?
The pan under the window and the flashing tied into the wall, not the glass. Ask for those lines on the scope. Pane Pro SD does not flash openings.
Where does safety glass come up?
Near doors, beside a tub or shower, and in large panes someone could walk into. Ask the contractor to mark those openings. This site will not guess which of yours qualify.
This county
What is different within a mile of the beach?
Salt sits on metal parts and older seals. Mention the distance to the water when you call. Ask what frame and hardware the contractor uses on houses that close to the ocean.
What about a hot inland afternoon?
West glass in El Cajon, Santee, and Escondido takes the sun. Ask about a second pane and a coating on those walls. A lower bill is not something this site will promise.
Can cloudy glass be swapped alone?
Sometimes. If the frame is solid, the sealed unit can be replaced and the frame left. If the frame is soft, the whole unit goes. The measure visit is what decides. We do not print a price for either path.

What happens after I call Pane Pro SD?
We pass the job to an independent window contractor. They set the time, look at the openings, and write the quote. If you hire them, they order and they install. We do not call that contractor vetted.
Are you sending your own crew?
No. You hire the installer. The contract is with that company.
How do I check insurance and the license?
Ask the installer for a current insurance certificate. Look the license up yourself at cslb.ca.gov. Pane Pro SD does not keep a coverage list.
What about a torn screen?
A screen shop is often the right call for mesh. Ask the window contractor, on the same visit, whether they handle screens too. This site is for the window and the patio door.
