Coronado, Imperial Beach, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and the first streets of Oceanside and Encinitas live in salt air. The failure people notice first is often a pitted lock or a sash that sticks, not a dramatic crack.
Aluminum is usually the frame coming out
Bare aluminum does not like this air. If the house still has the original single-pane aluminum, the conversation is usually a new frame, not another coat of anything. Vinyl and fiberglass are the materials contractors bring up because they do not rust. Ask which one they are quoting and why, for that wall.
Hardware is a separate line
A vinyl frame with cheap metal hardware still pits. Ask what the lock, the rollers, and the operator are made of. If the answer is “standard,” ask them to name the metal.
The wall joint matters as much as the product
Salt finds the gap between the frame and the stucco. Ask who flashes that joint and whether it is written into the scope. A new window on a failed joint repeats the leak.
Pane Pro SD refers the contractor. We do not spec the hardware and we do not install it.
