Tract houses in this county are full of horizontal sliders. When one will not move, the internet offers a replacement. Sometimes that is right. Often it is early.

Look at the track and the rollers first

Sand, a bent track, or tired rollers will stop a sash that is otherwise fine. A contractor should be able to tell you that in a few minutes. If they quote a new window without moving the sash, ask them to.

Style is a separate decision

A casement cranks outward and can catch a breeze. A hung window slides up. A slider needs a clear path across the opening. You can change styles if the opening allows it and if any association rule allows the look. That choice is yours, after the opening is measured.

A patio door is not this window

A sliding window and a sliding patio door fail in similar ways and are still different products. Quote them separately. See questions before a patio door.
